Prahaar Trailer: Rajkummar Rao as Ujjwal Nikam

The official trailer for Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is out, framing the 26/11 Mumbai attacks case through the courtroom work of public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, with Rajkummar Rao in the lead, The Indian Express and Filmfare reported.

Directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, the drama focuses on the trial of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving attacker captured during the November 26, 2008 attacks. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the trailer at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), one of the sites hit that night, according to both outlets. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on October 16.

The trailer opens with Raos Nikam asking a young witness whether she remembers the attack on CST station, then moves into courtroom sequences in which the prosecutor questions witnesses and builds the state’s case. A major beat in the promo has Kasab denying involvement, claiming he was a tourist who was tortured into a confession and asserting that he is 17 years old a claim that, in the trailers telling, prompts his lawyer to seek a juvenile-court transfer where a conviction would carry a far lighter maximum sentence than the death penalty. In a statement carried by The Indian Express, Rao said playing Nikam felt like a responsibility from the start because the prosecutor is a real person tied to one of Mumbai’s most difficult chapters, and that he wanted to understand the man behind the public figure rather than only recreate a surface image.
