Dexter Cast Marks 20th Anniversary at PaleyFest With Resurrection S2 Preview
Dexter’s cast marked the series’ 20th anniversary at PaleyFest NY with a Resurrection Season 2 premiere screening and panel.
The Paley Center for Media marked 20 years of Dexter and previewed the second season of Dexter: Resurrection on Friday, Oct. 9 at PaleyFest NY, pairing a red carpet, an advance screening of the Season 2 premiere and a sold-out post-screening conversation at The Paley Museum’s Bennack Theater, BroadwayWorld reported Oct. 10. The Oct. 9 slot had been on the festival schedule since summer, when TVLine published PaleyFest NY’s full lineup for Oct. 8–14 at the Manhattan museum.
Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan / executive producer), Uma Thurman (Charley Brown), James Remar (Harry Morgan), Jack Alcott (Harrison Morgan), Bokeem Woodbine (Captain Mixon) and Kadia Saraf (Detective Claudette Wallace) attended alongside showrunner Clyde Phillips and executive producers Scott Reynolds and Marcos Siega, BroadwayWorld noted. Deadline associate TV editor Rosy Cordero moderated the panel after the exclusive Season 2 premiere screening, which Citi sponsored as part of the festival’s annual fall run.
“Twenty years later it’s mind blowing,” Hall said of the franchise’s longevity, according to BroadwayWorld. “I had no anticipation it would be as broadly appealing.” Remar described the characters’ journeys as “complex but … believable,” while Phillips said the writers “paint ourselves into a corner on purpose” to keep viewers tense. Woodbine credited “the level of intelligence of the script,” and Reynolds framed each season around “this very relatable thing that we all go through,” with Phillips adding that the new chapter leans into the father-and-son dynamic between Dexter and Harrison.
Alcott said Harrison has “got a propensity for violence … he’s nowhere near his father, but there’s something there,” while Thurman described Charley as “burned by having a conscience” and “morally ambiguous,” teasing compromises her character thought she could square away. Hall said that when Dexter reappears in Resurrection’s first season “we see him recommitted to the code,” but that “that doesn’t prove to be enough.” Siega said the New York setting was intentional: “we wanted to embrace the look of the city,” calling it the best place to shoot the revival’s urban chapter.
TVLine’s earlier schedule listing had already flagged the Oct. 9 evening as a combined Dexter 20th-anniversary celebration and Resurrection Season 2 preview, with Hall, Thurman, Remar, Alcott, Woodbine, Phillips and Reynolds among the announced guests. BroadwayWorld’s on-the-ground report confirmed the sold-out theater and noted that this year’s festival introduced the inaugural PaleyFest Award for participating shows, giving the anniversary night an extra institutional frame beyond a standard cast Q&A.
Paramount+ has set Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 to premiere Friday, Oct. 30, giving the PaleyFest screening a three-week head start for festival audiences before the streamer’s wider rollout. For viewers tracking prestige TV panels this fall, the night doubled as both a nostalgia beat for the original Showtime drama that launched in 2006 and a marketing beat for the revival’s second season, with Saraf promising “stakes are so much higher” in the new chapter.
