Israeli President Isaac Herzog signaled the country's willingness to engage in another foreign-mediated truce with Gaza. The primary aim is to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas and ensure the delivery of essential aid to the Palestinian enclave.

President Herzog, addressing a gathering of ambassadors, stated, "Israel is prepared for another humanitarian pause and additional aid to facilitate the release of hostages." He laid the responsibility squarely on Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and the broader Hamas leadership.

However, Hamas promptly rejected negotiations related to a potential exchange of prisoners during the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict. A senior Hamas official, Basem Naem, emphasized their firm stance against negotiating under the backdrop of the "continuing Israeli genocidal war." Despite this, Naem expressed openness to any initiative contributing to ending aggression, opening border crossings for aid, and providing relief to the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, the United States reiterated its unwavering support for Israel. Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin affirmed "ironclad" backing, emphasizing the continuous provision of essential equipment for Israel's defense. This includes critical munitions, tactical vehicles, and air defense systems.

The developments unfolded against the backdrop of Israel launching more deadly strikes on Gaza. These actions occurred just ahead of an anticipated UN Security Council vote on another ceasefire demand. The conflict, initiated by Hamas on October 7, has persisted into its third month, marking the bloodiest period in Gaza's history. The ongoing violence has claimed around 1,140 lives in Israel, predominantly civilians, and resulted in the abduction of about 250 individuals.

In response, Israel's retaliation has led to the death of over 19,667 people in Gaza, with a significant impact on women and children. The region remains entrenched in the complexities of a prolonged and devastating conflict.
