Rhea Seehorn Wins First Emmy for Pluribus Lead Actress Drama
Rhea Seehorn wins her first Primetime Emmy as lead actress in a drama for Apple TV’s Pluribus, ending a Better Call Saul Emmy drought, per Variety and the Los Angeles Times.
Rhea Seehorn won her first Primetime Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for Apple TV’s Pluribus, closing a long Emmy drought that followed her acclaimed run on Better Call Saul, Variety and the Los Angeles Times reported from the September 14, 2026 ceremony.
Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, a pessimistic romantasy novelist who becomes one of the last people with free will in Vince Gilligan’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama. On stage at the Peacock Theater, she joked about being “on a beta blocker,” congratulated fellow nominees, and singled out Keri Russell, who she said sent a card quoting Gloria Steinem: “We are linked, not ranked.” She thanked Gilligan for “the role of a lifetime” and for sets where collaborators feel safe to take risks.
Variety noted that Seehorn beat Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Chase Infiniti (The Testaments), Keri Russell (The Diplomat) and Zendaya (Euphoria). She had previously been nominated twice for supporting actress for Kim Wexler on Better Call Saul and once for the short-form series Cooper’s Bar, without a win—part of Saul’s notorious Emmy shutout despite 53 nominations.
The Los Angeles Times framed the win as overdue recognition after Golden Globe, Critics Choice and TCA honors for Pluribus, which reunited Seehorn with Gilligan. Entering Monday’s telecast the series had already collected craft Emmys and 18 nominations overall; Gilligan has said Season 2 writing is finished and filming is expected to begin this fall.
For Apple TV, Seehorn’s victory adds another headline night alongside the platform’s comedy surge. For audiences who followed her from Kim Wexler’s ponytail to Carol Sturka’s lonely defiance, the Emmy is the industry’s belated agreement with what critics have said for years.
