Casey Bloys Says HBO Max–Paramount+ Bundle 'Would Make Sense'
HBO and HBO Max Content chairman Casey Bloys said a post-merger HBO Max and Paramount+ pairing modeled on the successful HBO Max–Disney bundle “would make a lot of sense,” deflecting questions about an immediate full merge of the two streamers, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported from Bloomberg’s Screentime conference on Oct. 1.
Bloys declined to confirm whether he will lead combined streaming after Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, expected to close around Oct. 6. “The merger is not closed,” he told both outlets’ coverage, adding that David Ellison’s team wants to announce leadership and that it is “not mine to announce.”
Asked whether HBO Max and Paramount+ will combine into one service, Bloys pointed to the HBO Max–Disney bundle’s track record and said a similar arrangement could fit, THR and Deadline write. He also said Ellison has been “very, very excited” and “very respectful” of HBO’s history and that he believes Ellison will “maintain what we’ve done.”
The remarks come after Paramount streaming chief Cindy Hollands exit cleared a path for speculation that Bloys will oversee the combined DTC operation, both outlets note, while Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz has already been named co-CEO alongside Ellison. Bloys still has time left on his WBD contract and stressed the companies remain separate until close.
Separately at Screentime, Bloys described the post–Peak TV contraction as a “catastrophe” for employment after scripted volume fell from roughly 600 shows to about 400, Deadline reports, calling the bubble’s greenlight-on-an-idea era unsustainable even as he said he would still recommend entertainment careers.
For readers tracking studio streaming strategy on Studio, verified as of Oct. 1 reports: Bloys floats a Max–Paramount+ bundle rather than an immediate merge; leadership titles await closing; Ellison is described as supportive of HBO’s brand continuity.
