Sunny Deol Unveils Suryaa First Look for Nov. 20 Release
Sunny Deol unveiled the first look for Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak on Oct. 12, locking a Nov. 20 theatrical release for Padmakumar's crime thriller.
Sunny Deol unveiled the first look and motion poster for his delayed crime thriller Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak on Monday, Oct. 12, locking a Nov. 20 theatrical date and teasing a rugged, brooding avatar built around buried secrets. India Today reported that the poster shows Deol with a weathered face, intense gaze and cigarette, under the tagline “Torn between his past and present, he uncovers the truth.” Filmfare confirmed the same Nov. 20 release and caption language from Deol’s social post presenting Kamal Mukut’s project “From the end to the beginning.”
According to India Today, Malayalam filmmaker M. Padmakumar makes his Bollywood debut with the Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Malayalam thriller Joseph, written by Shahi Kabir. Deol reportedly plays a retired police officer pulled back into an investigation that forces him to confront crime and unresolved history. The ensemble includes Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Jisshu Sengupta, Tinu Anand, Manish Wadhwa and Tanushree Chakraborty, with Deepak Mukut, Hemmant Mukut and Lokesh Mukut producing under MM Moviez and Zee Music Company attached for music.
Filmfare quoted producer Kamal Mukut saying he signed Deol for two films — Gadar 2 and Suryaa — and began the latter after Gadar 2’s success. Mukut described a “never-before-seen avatar” woven across phases of the character’s life and designed to move audiences through two eras. India Today’s report matches that darker tonal pitch without revealing major plot turns beyond the justice-and-secrets framing that the tagline already telegraphs.
The Oct. 12 drop ends a long wait for a film that first went on floors years ago and has been repeatedly teased as an intense Deol vehicle distinct from his recent action-patriotic lanes. By pairing a Padmakumar/Shahi Kabir Malayalam source with a Nov. 20 window, the makers are betting festival-free theatrical urgency and a stark first-look image can reset interest after the delay. Trade coverage around the unveil treated the cigarette-and-stubble frame as the message: this is a crime thriller mood board, not a mass-hero victory lap.
Fans tracking Deol’s 2026 slate now have a concrete Friday and a visual that signals grit rather than crowd-pleasing swagger. Whether the Hindi adaptation keeps Joseph’s critical bite will be answered in theaters; the Oct. 12 unveil’s job was simpler — show the face, name the date and put the thriller back on the late-November board beside the rest of the release calendar.
India Today also listed supporting names Rohit Tiwari and Anoop Trivedi alongside the headline ensemble, underscoring that the makers are selling Suryaa as a full-cast crime drama rather than a solo-star showcase. Filmfare’s matching Nov. 20 confirmation leaves little ambiguity on the calendar even as older delay chatter fades: the first-look drop is the reset button, and the theatrical Friday is now the only date that matters for booking chatter.
