“Udta Teer,” the spy comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, collected Rs 7.25 crore net in India on its first Saturday, Oct. 24, a 76.8% increase over its opening-day total of Rs 4.10 crore, according to figures from trade tracker Sacnilk reported by India Today, The Times of India and NDTV.

The Saturday figure took the film’s two-day domestic net total to Rs 11.35 crore and its India gross to Rs 13.53 crore. With Rs 2.75 crore in overseas gross, the worldwide gross stood at Rs 16.28 crore after two days, according to Sacnilk.

A slow start, then a Saturday jump

Directed by first-time filmmaker Aakash Kaushik and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment, “Udta Teer” opened in theaters on Friday, Oct. 23, across 6,265 shows at 13% occupancy, The Times of India reported. The Saturday collection came from 6,164 shows, an average of Rs 11,762 per show, and occupancy rose to 21%.

The Indian Express reported that the film sold 41,746 tickets before release, earning Rs 1.12 crore gross in advance sales, or Rs 2.59 crore including block booking, leaving the opening dependent on walk-up sales. India Today reported that the Rs 4.10 crore opening ranked eighth among Khurrana’s opening days, well behind his career-best opener, “Thamma,” which collected Rs 24 crore net on its first day in 2025.

Attendance built through Saturday. The Hindi 2D version recorded 8.54% occupancy in morning shows, 27.62% in the afternoon, 33% in the evening and 42.69% at night, for an overall rate of 29.70%, according to India Today and The Times of India. The film drew 317,835 footfalls on Saturday, bringing its two-day attendance to 505,684.

What trade analysts said

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on X that the film “springs a wonderful surprise, witnessing a solid 76.83% jump on Saturday,” adding that “the national chains doubled their business on Saturday,” as quoted by The Indian Express. He also said the film “now needs to sustain this momentum through the weekdays to post a respectable Week 1 total.”

Analyst Sumit Kadel wrote that the film was “on course to close its opening weekend on a respectable note, with ₹19–20 Cr nett expected,” according to the same outlet. Analyst Ramesh Bala put the Saturday gross at Rs 8.70 crore.

Estimates vary by tracker. Bollywood Hungama lists the film’s India collections at Rs 4 crore for Friday and Rs 7.04 crore for Saturday. Hindustan Times described the Saturday increase as roughly 75% and noted that the film received mixed reviews from critics.

Sunday collections still coming in

Sunday figures were still incomplete when this article was published. Sacnilk’s running estimate, updated at 8:03 p.m. India time on Oct. 25 (10:33 a.m. ET), put the film’s third-day net at Rs 6.56 crore from 5,099 tracked shows, for a running India net total of Rs 17.91 crore. Sacnilk said final numbers would be reported later that night.

The film faces competition from holdover titles, including Yami Gautam’s “Nayyi Navelli” and Rajkummar Rao’s “Prahaar,” Hindustan Times reported. Other Hindi films that opened the same Friday include “Little Thomas,” “Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar” and “Tu Hai Meri Kiran,” according to The Indian Express.

About the film

Khurrana plays Bilal Ahmad, a Pakistani intelligence operative who loses his memory in an explosion and comes to believe he is an Indian counter-terrorism officer. Khan plays a defence ministry finance official who is also Bilal’s wife and colleague, according to The Times of India. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover, and the film is the second posthumous screen appearance of actor Mukul Dev.

“Udta Teer” was originally scheduled for Oct. 9 but was moved back two weeks because of the box office run of Ajay Devgn’s “Drishyam 3,” which opened Oct. 2, The Indian Express reported. That gives the film about 12 days in theaters before Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayana,” starring Ranbir Kapoor, opens on Thursday, Nov. 5.
