Fitness influencer Joey Swoll says he was rushed to the hospital over the weekend because of a problem with his heart, but that he is now “doing much better.” The creator, known for his gym-etiquette videos, shared the news with followers in a post on X this week alongside a photo of himself in a hospital bed, Dexerto and the Daily Star reported.

“I was rushed to the hospital Saturday morning for my heart,” Swoll wrote. “It’s been a rough few days, I’m still here, but doing much better. Please send some love and prayers.”

Swoll did not say what caused the latest scare or describe any treatment he received, and he has not said whether it is connected to his earlier heart problems, both outlets noted. The hospital visit took place on Saturday, Oct. 3, according to the Daily Star.

Who is Joey Swoll?

Swoll, whose real name is Joey Sergo, built his audience by calling out people who film and mock other gym users and then post the clips online, a campaign Dexerto described as a stand against “toxic gym culture.” The Daily Star reported that he has more than 8 million followers on TikTok and 5 million on Instagram.

His post quickly drew a wave of well wishes on social media, including from wrestler Matt Hardy, according to the Daily Star.

A history of heart scares

This is not the first time Swoll has spoken openly about his heart. In 2023, he revealed that doctors had found what he described as “genetic irregularities” after he experienced pain and felt something was wrong, Dexerto reported. He had surgery to address the issue and said afterward, “I ended up in surgery for a few hours to fix the issue and was back on my feet that night, I feel great, and my heart is strong as ever.”

A more serious scare followed in 2024. Swoll said he went in for a routine diagnostic angiogram that was supposed to take 30 to 45 minutes, but a piece of the tool used in the procedure broke off inside his heart. “During the procedure, a piece of the tool they used fell off inside my heart causing a LOT of problems and me to crash,” he wrote at the time, in a post quoted by the Daily Star. He said it took about six hours for doctors to retrieve it, calling the outcome “a MIRACLE.”

A year after that procedure, Swoll said tests showed his heart function was “better than ever” and that his cardiologist was taking him off most of his medication, Dexerto reported.

What comes next

For now, Swoll has shared only the short update and has not revealed further details about his condition, the Daily Star reported. Swoll, who is also a bodybuilder, has kept followers informed about his heart before, posting about his procedures in 2023 and 2024, according to Dexerto.
