Florence Pugh's East of Eden Lands on Netflix Oct. 1

Netflix’s seven-episode limited series East of Eden, adapted by Zoe Kazan from John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel and led by Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, is streaming globally as of Oct. 1, Netflix Tudum and NetflixLife reported.

Tudum’s Oct. 1 feature confirms all episodes dropped at once. Pugh’s Cathy is framed as the story’s indelible antihero whose path intersects Adam Trask (Christopher Abbott) and Charles Trask (Mike Faist) across a multigenerational California saga bookended by the Civil War and World War I. In the series’ opening register, Cathy explains a childhood wish to “grow smaller” so “the bad things couldn’t find me,” tying personal disappearance to a world she calls “so full of evil.”

Kazan wrote and executive produced the limited series. She told Netflix that “bringing the family saga to life” resonated, but above all Steinbeck’s writing — “personal, shocking, profound, and free” — has held her since she first read the book as a young teen. Tudum frames the adaptation as exploring how a family’s history shapes an individual’s present, with characters forced to choose between good and evil in a rapidly changing society.

NetflixLife, mapping the overnight release window, places the U.S. drop at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET on Oct. 1 and lists corresponding local times from Hawaii through Sydney. The outlet describes the project as a “modern interpretation” that recenters Cathy while still tracking the Trask familys decades-long collision.

Supporting players listed by Tudum include Hoon Lee as Lee, Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye, Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask, and Joe Anders as Aron Trask. Garth Davis directed episodes 1–4; Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directed episodes 5–7. Jeb Stuart served as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Kazan. Deadlines earlier date lock also noted co-studios Fifth Season and Anonymous Content and New Zealand production bases for the shoot.

Verified as of Oct. 1 for readers tracking streaming premieres on Hollywood: all seven episodes are available globally on Netflix; Pugh, Abbott, and Faist lead; Kazan adapted and co-showruns with Stuart; Davis and de Clermont-Tonnerre split directing blocks; no eighth episode was announced in the cited reports.
