Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the universe of CD Projekt Red’s mega-selling RPG Cyberpunk 2077, with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached and the Polish studio also producing, Deadline and Variety reported on Oct. 8.

Deadline’s Justin Kroll first reported the exclusive, saying Paramount is building a feature inside the dystopian Night City setting that made the 2020 game a global phenomenon after a rocky launch. Di Bonaventura is producing alongside CD Projekt Red, which holds the franchise rights. Variety’s Jack Dunn independently confirmed the deal the same morning, underscoring how quickly the story moved from trade exclusive to industry consensus.

In the game, players control V, a mercenary whose mind is invaded by a biochip carrying an engram of rocker-terrorist Johnny Silverhand, forcing an uneasy alliance against the megacorporation Arasaka. Keanu Reeves voiced and portrayed Silverhand in the game; neither outlet reported whether he—or any other cast member—is attached to the Paramount movie. No director, screenwriter, plot focus or release date has been announced, leaving open whether the film will adapt a specific campaign path or invent a new Night City story.

Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, while the Phantom Liberty expansion has sold about 15 million, both Deadline and Variety cited. CD Projekt Red joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski said on social media that the company is “excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise,” comments later echoed in market coverage as the studio’s shares rose roughly 3% in early Friday trading in Europe after the Deadline report.

The project fits Paramount’s broader push into video-game adaptations. The studio is co-producing a Street Fighter film with Legendary that opens Oct. 16, and it is developing a Call of Duty movie with Peter Berg directing and co-writing with Taylor Sheridan, Deadline noted. Variety framed the Cyberpunk pick as a bid for older, genre-savvy audiences rather than the younger-skewing hits that kicked off Hollywood’s recent game-to-film boom after titles such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

For CD Projekt Red, a studio partnership keeps the Night City brand visible while a sequel remains in development without a public launch date—an important signal after the original game’s troubled ship and subsequent redemption arc. For Paramount, it adds another high-profile IP play to a slate already leaning on interactive franchises, with the shared risk that adaptation quality will be judged against one of gaming’s most visually distinctive worlds. Details on story and casting are expected only when the partners are ready to share more. Find more studio coverage on our Hollywood page.

Industry reaction on Thursday treated the news as confirmation that high-concept game worlds remain bankable film targets even when the source material is mature and violent rather than family-friendly. Until a director boards and a story bible surfaces, the only firm facts are the studio, the producers and the franchise’s proven commercial scale.

Verification: Paramount development, di Bonaventura producing role, CD Projekt Red as producer/rights holder, sales figures and Street Fighter / Call of Duty slate context are from Deadline (Justin Kroll, Oct. 8). Independent confirmation of the deal, Night City/V/Silverhand premise summary and adult-audience framing are from Variety (Jack Dunn, Oct. 8).
