Tyler Cameron and Tate Madden Reveal Baby Girl on DWTS

Reality television personality Tyler Cameron and his fiancée, Tate Madden, are expecting their first child, a daughter, the couple revealed during the Oct. 20 broadcast of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." The announcement came on the season 35 competition's Dedication Night episode, according to ABC News, and the sex of the baby was revealed live in the ballroom.

A routine dedicated to mothers

Cameron, 33, who first gained national attention on "The Bachelorette," is competing this season with professional partner Sharna Burgess. For Dedication Night, the pair performed a contemporary routine to Ed Sheeran's "Supermarket Flowers," which was dedicated to mothers, including Cameron's late mother, Andrea, according to Entertainment Weekly. Entertainment Weekly reported that Andrea Cameron died of a brain aneurysm in 2020 at age 55. People reported that she died in March 2020.

According to E! News, Burgess represented the spirit of Cameron's mother during the performance while a recording of Cameron reading a letter to her played. In the recording, as quoted by E! News, Cameron said: "You would have loved the woman I'm gonna marry. All the things that made you special, I found in her. She's gonna be the most incredible mama, just like you. And we're gonna have a baby."

E! News reported that Madden then joined Cameron and Burgess on the dance floor. ABC News reported that host Alfonso Ribeiro called for a gender reveal, after which pink confetti burst across the ballroom to show that the couple is expecting a girl.

"This is incredible," Cameron said after the reveal, according to E! News. "I get to be a girl dad—what a gift! What an amazing opportunity!"

A pregnancy kept private until the broadcast

In an interview published by People, the couple said they learned of the pregnancy shortly after their engagement. "The night we got back from getting engaged, I took the [pregnancy] test," Madden, a 33-year-old photographer, told the magazine.

People reported that the couple told only a small group of friends and family and kept the news private in the hope that Cameron would remain in the competition long enough to announce it on Dedication Night. Cameron told People that his rehearsal schedule caused him to miss Madden's ultrasound appointment and that he first saw the ultrasound image when she brought it to him in New York City. "Being a parent is the most important job in the world," he told the outlet.

According to ABC News, Cameron and Madden announced their engagement two months earlier, in a joint Instagram post on Aug. 15 that included photos of Cameron proposing on a beach at Little Palm Island in Florida. People reported that the couple moved to Los Angeles after learning of the pregnancy, as Cameron began competing on the show.

A busy night for the series

Cameron's pre-show remarks had signaled the episode's personal significance. In a video posted to the show's Instagram account on Oct. 17 and quoted by E! News, he described his mother's sudden death and said, "It's going to be an emotional night. It's going to be a special night."

The same episode also featured a lineup change elsewhere in the competition. Professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy sat out the week under a one-week suspension, and Alan Bersten stepped in to partner with Jenna Dewan, according to E! News, which reported that the show addressed Chmerkovskiy's absence during the broadcast.

"Dancing with the Stars" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, and episodes stream the next day on Hulu, according to ABC News.
