‘Things We Never Got Over’ Series Adds Six, Including JoBeth Williams
Sean Teale, Sarah Jeffery, Megan Stott, Lili Simmons, Anthony Keyvan and JoBeth Williams join Prime Video’s Things We Never Got Over, Lucy Score’s Knockemout romance.
Prime Video’s adaptation of Lucy Score’s hit romance novel “Things We Never Got Over” has filled out its town. Sean Teale, Sarah Jeffery, Megan Stott, Lili Simmons, Anthony Keyvan and “Poltergeist” star JoBeth Williams have joined the series, Deadline and Variety reported on Monday, Oct. 5.
The new cast members and their roles are: Teale (“Doctor Odyssey,” “Only Murders in the Building”) as Lucian; Jeffery (“The Six Triple Eight,” “Charmed”) as Sloane; Stott (“Penelope,” “Little Fires Everywhere”) as Waylay; Simmons (“Double Down South,” “Power Book IV: Force”) as Lina; Keyvan (“Just Picture It,” “XO, Kitty”) as Stef; and Williams (“Poltergeist,” “Behemoth!”) as Liza J.
Fans of the book will recognize every one of those character names from the small-town ensemble. The six actors join previously announced leads Molly Griggs, Matthew Noszka and Tommy Martinez, and Variety notes that the series was first announced in June. Roles for the newcomers were confirmed in the announcement, but no details about how much screen time each character will get have been shared.
The official logline, as published by both outlets, sets up the story: “When runaway bride Naomi Witt (Griggs) arrives in the quirky town of Knockemout, Virginia, she expects to rescue her estranged twin (Griggs) and return to the life she left behind. Instead, her sister disappears, leaving Naomi with a niece she never knew existed, a town full of irresistible characters — including charming local sheriff Nash Morgan (Martinez) and his decidedly grumpy but infuriatingly sexy brother Knox Morgan (Noszka) — and a future she never imagined.”
That means Griggs is pulling double duty, playing both Naomi and her twin sister, Tina, according to Amazon MGM Studios’ casting announcement. Noszka, who appeared in “All’s Fair,” plays the grumpy Knox, while Martinez (“Good Trouble”) plays his brother, Nash.
The book has a huge readership. Deadline reports that “Things We Never Got Over,” the first novel in Score’s Knockemout trilogy, is a New York Times bestseller and has been one of the most-read titles on Kindle Unlimited since its release in 2022. The sequels completed the trilogy in 2023, giving the show plenty of room to grow if it finds an audience.
Behind the camera, “Ringer” creators Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder wrote the pilot and will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Gina Girolamo is an executive producer through her company, Strega Stories, and Score is part of the producing team; Deadline and Amazon list her as a co-executive producer. Amazon MGM Studios is producing the series, which Amazon says will premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.
The casting continues Amazon’s run of book-to-screen projects. Variety points to the streamer’s success with adaptations such as “Reacher,” “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “Bosch,” “Scarpetta,” “Off Campus” and “We Were Liars.” No premiere date has been announced. Verification: The six new cast members, their roles, the logline and the producing team were reported by Deadline (Oct. 5) and Variety (Oct. 5), and match Amazon MGM Studios’ Oct. 5 announcement.
