The Louis Theroux Podcast Goes Weekly on Spotify for Season 9

Louis Theroux is doubling down on podcasting. Spotify and Theroux’s production company, Mindhouse Studios, will release twice as many episodes of The Louis Theroux Podcast, with season nine launching on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and new episodes arriving every week after that, The Hollywood Reporter reported. UK trade site PodcastingToday confirmed the new weekly Wednesday schedule and the season’s first wave of guests.

The lineup mixes film, comedy, sport and books. Confirmed guests include director Judd Apatow, Monty Python member Eric Idle, heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, writer and broadcaster Jon Ronson, poet and performer John Cooper Clarke, actor and former footballer Vinnie Jones and author and activist Naomi Klein. More guests will be announced later, according to both outlets.

The season also features a first for the show: a crossover guest from one of Theroux’s television documentaries. Megan Phelps-Roper, who appeared in his documentary The Most Hated Family in America and has since left the Westboro Baptist Church, will sit down with him to talk about life inside the group, THR reported.

Theroux announced the season in his familiar deadpan style. “Hey, listen up, losers,” he said in a statement shared with THR. “Because guess what! My podcast is back and you really are going to ‘lose’ your minds when you see who the guests are! Tyson Fury? Jon Ronson? Naomi Klein? Wait, I haven’t finished!” He described Phelps-Roper as “now a distinguished author and podcaster” and added, “Now, there are even more episodes of the pod. Meaning you can keep on ‘losing’ (your minds) over and over again throughout the year.”

Since its 2023 launch, the show has made Theroux one of the U.K.’s most successful podcasters, THR reported. According to the outlet, it was the third most-listened-to podcast overall in the UK last year in Spotify Wrapped data, up from sixth place in 2024. Past guests have included Florence Pugh, Gary Lineker, Steve Coogan, Malala Yousafzai, Bella Ramsey, Sharon Stone and Barry Keoghan, THR reported.

PodcastingToday pointed to some of the conversations that drew attention in earlier seasons, including Pugh discussing intimacy on screen, Lineker reflecting on his departure from the BBC, Boris Becker recounting his time in prison and Coogan describing how he prepared to play Jimmy Savile. Other guests have included Nick Cave, Tracey Emin and Jimmy Carr, the outlet said.

The Louis Theroux Podcast is produced by Mindhouse Studios for Spotify and is available on all podcast platforms, while video episodes are exclusive to Spotify, PodcastingToday reported. The bigger release schedule builds on the existing partnership between Mindhouse and Spotify.
