YouTube Podcast Lineup Brings AI Spoken Discovery to YouTube Music
YouTube launches Your Podcast Lineup AI spoken guide plus Custom Feeds for podcast discovery, per Podcast News Daily and YouTube Blog.
YouTube is putting AI at the center of podcast discovery with “Your Podcast Lineup,” a personalized weekly spoken guide inside YouTube Music, plus conversational recommendations and Custom Feeds on the main app, Podcast News Daily and the YouTube Blog reported from Made On YouTube.
Your Podcast Lineup will generate a weekly audio preview of recommended shows, explain why a listener might like them, then move into suggested episodes. YouTube described the experience as “completely eyes-optional and hands-free,” aimed at commutes and other moments when screens are impractical. The feature is coming soon to YouTube Music and Premium subscribers worldwide, Podcast News Daily reported.
Ask Music, YouTube Music’s conversational discovery tool, is expanding across podcasts and a catalog of more than 300 million songs so listeners can customize what they hear through chat-style prompts. On the main YouTube homepage, Custom Feeds will let users save personalized feeds from prompts such as “Witty podcasts for my daily 30-minute commute,” with feeds refreshing automatically. Custom Feeds initially roll out in the United States across web, mobile and connected TVs, both outlets said.
The discovery push sits on top of an already large podcast audience. YouTube said in May that podcasts have more than one billion monthly active viewers on the platform, and that Premium users watched more than 800 million hours of podcasts in April alone, according to Podcast News Daily. CEO Neal Mohan framed the broader Made On YouTube slate as keeping technology ahead of how people create, discover and connect amid more than 20 million daily uploads.
Podcast discovery is only one slice of the AI package. YouTube Studio is gaining draft feedback, style-matched thumbnail generation and video A/B testing across up to three cuts. Gemini-powered conversational editing is coming to Shorts and the YouTube Create app. Likeness detection is moving to mobile, with speaking-voice detection planned to join facial matching later this year — a detail that matters for voice-forward podcast and commentary creators protecting against unauthorized AI replicas.
For listeners and publishers following the category on Podcasts, the strategic signal is clear: YouTube wants to be where podcasts are found, not only where video episodes are hosted. A spoken weekly lineup inside YouTube Music competes directly with algorithmic show recommendations on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, while Custom Feeds bring podcast intent onto the same homepage that already drives video habit.
Eyes-optional design is the product bet worth watching. Many podcast hours happen in cars, kitchens and gyms where a video autoplay is a liability. If Your Podcast Lineup can narrate a personalized menu and hand off into episodes without demanding a glance, YouTube Music becomes a more credible audio companion rather than a video app with a podcast tab.
Publishers should also note the advertising adjacency. YouTube continues to test dynamic brand segments insertable into many long-form videos at once, with geographic targeting and a built-in call-to-action shelf — tooling that podcast networks monetizing video libraries will recognize as inventory language. Agency incentives framed in the hundreds of millions sit alongside Creator Partnerships expansion, tying discovery to monetization rather than leaving shows to grow on vanity views alone.
Competitive pressure is not abstract. Spotify has spent years building podcast economics and partner programs; Apple is adding subscriber video tools; Netflix has even appeared in some consumption surveys ahead of Apple for podcast listening. YouTube’s counter is scale plus AI packaging: one billion monthly podcast viewers, Premium hour counts in the hundreds of millions, and now a spoken guide that tries to turn passive scrollers into scheduled listeners.
Related platform economics were covered in our recent report on Spotify’s Partner Program expansion. YouTube’s Lineup and Custom Feeds answer that geography push with discovery product rather than payout geography — a different lever, aimed at the same fight for show loyalty.
Verified facts from Podcast News Daily’s Sept. 24 account and YouTube’s Sept. 23 blog: Your Podcast Lineup weekly AI audio guide coming to YouTube Music and Premium worldwide; Ask Music expanding to podcasts; Custom Feeds with conversational prompts launching first in the U.S.; podcasts cited at 1B+ monthly active viewers; Premium users with 800M+ podcast hours in April. Whether the spoken lineup ships before holiday travel season will decide if this announcement is a Q4 listening habit or a 2027 roadmap item.
