Shawn Levy Signs Disney 20th Television Overall Deal After Netflix

Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps Entertainment have signed a multi-year overall television deal with Disney’s 20th Television, ending a long Netflix tenure that began in 2017, Deadline and Variety reported Monday.

Levy will develop and produce series across Disney Entertainment platforms beginning in October 2027. At Netflix he executive produced all five seasons of Stranger Things, directed episodes of the hit, and produced The Adam Project and Shadow and Bone. He will keep collaborating with Matt and Ross Duffer on the Stranger Things universe at Netflix even as the brothers move their own overall deal to Paramount.

“Shawn has a rare ability to tell stories that are wildly entertaining and deeply human,” Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden said in a statement carried by Deadline. Levy called Disney “home,” noting his early Disney Channel work on The Famous Jett Jackson and later 20th Century films including Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen. On the feature side he remains tied to Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Starfighter and Marvel’s Ghost Rider, both with Ryan Gosling, after directing Deadpool & Wolverine.

“I will forever cherish the incredible ride 21 Laps has had with Netflix,” Levy said, thanking Ted Sarandos and other Netflix executives while looking ahead to “the next wave of 21 Laps television series” with Debra OConnell’s Disney Television team. The signing continues a 20th TV talent run that recently added Quinta Brunson and Sue Naegle from rival studios, Deadline noted.

For streaming and studio watchers on Studio, the move consolidates Levy’s TV development under the same corporate umbrella as his Marvel and Lucasfilm film slate — a rare dual-track alignment as peak-TV overall deals reshuffle after Stranger Things.
