‘Madden’ Trailer: Nicolas Cage Transforms Into John Madden for Amazon MGM Biopic

Amazon MGM Studios has released the official trailer for “Madden,” the Nicolas Cage-led sports biopic directed by David O. Russell, with a select-theater bow set for Nov. 11 and a global Prime Video premiere on Nov. 18, Variety and Deadline reported.

Cage transforms into John Madden, the Super Bowl-winning Oakland Raiders head coach who later became one of football’s most recognizable broadcasters and the namesake of the long-running Madden NFL video-game franchise. The official logline tracks Madden’s path “from a Super Bowl-winning partnership with Al Davis and the Raiders, to creating Madden NFL, and becoming one of the most iconic voices in football history,” Variety said.

Christian Bale co-stars as Raiders owner Al Davis, with Kathryn Hahn as Madden’s wife, Virginia. The ensemble also includes Sienna Miller, John Mulaney, and Shane Gillis, both trades confirmed.

Madden coached the Raiders through the 1970s, delivering the franchise’s first Super Bowl title before retiring from the sideline in 1979 and spending roughly three decades as a television color commentator. He died in December 2021 at age 85.

“Madden” is Russell’s first feature since “Amsterdam” in 2022. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker’s earlier credits include “The Fighter,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” and “Joy,” Variety noted.
