Guy Raz Takes ‘How I Built This’ From NPR to Vox Media

Guy Raz is acquiring full ownership of the entrepreneurship podcast How I Built This from NPR and partnering with Vox Media on sales, marketing, distribution, and live-event support, TheWrap and The Hollywood Reporter reported Tuesday.

Raz created and has hosted the show since its 2016 NPR launch. Financial terms were not disclosed; a Vox Media spokesperson told TheWrap that NPR retains no ownership or economic interest. UTA’s Oren Rosenbaum represented Raz on both the NPR deal and the Vox partnership.

Later this fall, How I Built This plans video episodes on YouTube and social platforms. In early 2027 the show intends to roughly double its publishing volume from about 45 episodes a year and return to live events for founders, both outlets reported. The archive tops 700 episodes, with guests including Richard Branson, Sara Blakely, Howard Schultz, Tory Burch, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

“As we mark the first ten years of the show, I can’t think of a better partner than Vox Media to help me build the next chapter,” Raz said in a statement cited by TheWrap. Vox Media podcasts GM Ray Chao said the company wants to grow the franchise into an “enduring” brand alongside titles such as Pivot and Today, Explained.
