Florida Woman Allegedly Left with Brain Damage Following Dental Surgery in Texas

A Miami woman, Maria Lugo Querales, is dealing with severe brain damage and constant care needs following what's claimed to be an "unnecessary" dental procedure in Marble Falls, Texas. The lawsuit, filed by her husband Luis Espana, alleges that Dr. Jerry Teague, the anesthesiologist, gave her too much anesthesia without proper precautions.

The incident occurred during a dental procedure on May 10, 2022, where Dr. Teague administered anesthesia. Other dentists involved, Dr. Lane Freeman and Dr. Stuart Nunnally, along with their clinic, Nunnally, Freeman, and Owens, are also part of the lawsuit. It's claimed that Maria did not agree to the anesthesia, and Dr. Teague failed to take necessary steps, leading to an overdose.

The planned dental surgery was canceled, and Maria was rushed to St. David’s Medical Center in Austin. Sadly, Dr. Teague passed away two weeks later due to cancer, a diagnosis he received just before the incident.

Dr. Teague had faced disciplinary actions before, being suspended in 2016 and barred from practicing medicine for three years. This was because of a positive test for fentanyl and midazolam. His suspension ended in 2019, and he was hired by the Marble Falls clinic.

Maria, now living in a neurological rehabilitation facility in Florida, breathes through a tracheotomy and is fed through a tube. The lawsuit mentions that she sought treatment at the Texas clinic after seeing it in a YouTube video by Dr. Ludwig Johnson, an Instagram influencer.

Luis Espana, Maria's husband, is seeking damages from the dental clinic after reaching a confidential settlement with Dr. Teague’s estate last month.
