A fire broke out at a temporary shooting set in Mumbai’s Film City on Monday, Oct. 5. Early reports linked the blaze to the production of Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayana,” and firefighters had it under control in less than an hour with no injuries, according to The Times of India and Lokmat Times.

The BMC’s Mumbai Fire Brigade reported a Level-I fire at 4:02 p.m. at a set behind Reliance Media Works and Prime Focus in Film City, Goregaon East, The Times of India said. Officials said the fire stayed inside a temporary PCR unit of about 100 by 20 feet on a set behind Prime Focus Studio. Electrical wiring, cables and fittings, doors, wooden planks, AC units, bamboo, plastic items, sound systems and shooting equipment were affected. It was put out by 4:55 p.m. Lokmat Times put the firefight at 53 minutes.

The fire brigade, police, BMC ward control and 108 ambulance services all reached the site, both outlets reported. No one was hurt, and the injury-free outcome was confirmed by the fire brigade, according to The Times of India. Lokmat Times said the exact cause and the full extent of the damage had not yet been determined.

Videos of thick smoke over the studio complex spread quickly online, and many posts tied the blaze to “Ramayana,” the two-part epic starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, which is being filmed at the same Film City premises. Mid-day described the location as a temporary set where the film is being shot and said the blaze reportedly affected the nearby “Pati Patni Aur Panga 2” and MTV “Hustle 5” premises. A social media post quoted by Mid-day said the fire sent “a huge plume of smoke into the air” and triggered panic at the location.

Accounts of where the fire started still differ. The Times of India said early reports suggest it began on the set of “Pati Patni Aur Panga 2” and moved toward the set of MTV’s “Hustle 5,” both being filmed in nearby studios. The paper said shoots on both shows were disrupted, and that there was no official word on how badly either set was damaged. Lokmat Times said the incident was “initially linked” to “Ramayana,” and that reports claimed the fire in the viral video broke out on the Colors TV show’s set before spreading toward “Hustle 5.” It added that the makers of neither show had officially confirmed this.

The scare comes during a busy stretch for the film. The Times of India noted that YouTuber MrBeast recently attended a “Ramayana” event in Mumbai with Kapoor, Pallavi, Ravie Dubey, producer Namit Malhotra and Tiwari. Part 1 is set for theaters this Diwali, and Part 2 is planned for Diwali 2027, the paper reported. For more film industry news, visit our Bollywood page.

Verification: Times, location, fire classification, affected materials, emergency response and the no-injuries status come from the Mumbai Fire Brigade details reported by The Times of India (Oct. 5) and Lokmat Times (Oct. 5). Both note that early accounts of which set caught fire first have not been officially confirmed.
