Two of gaming’s biggest recent multiplayer hits are headed for the screen. Chernin Entertainment, the scripted film and television label of Peter Chernin’s The North Road Company, has been set as lead producer on film and TV adaptations of “ARC Raiders” and “The Finals,” both made by Nexon-owned developer Embark Studios, Variety and GamesBeat reported on Monday, Oct. 5. Both outlets said Chernin was chosen from a competitive field of production companies and studios vying for the rights.

Neither report named writers, directors or cast, and no story details or release timing were announced.

For Embark, the pact is about growing its worlds while keeping its own developers involved. “Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing ARC Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community,” Patrick Söderlund, Embark’s founder and CEO and Nexon’s executive chairman, said in a statement. He added that “the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.”

Chernin sees the games as franchise material. “ARC Raiders and The Finals are exactly the kind of opportunities we’ve been building towards at Chernin Entertainment: ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television,” said David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment. “Nexon and Embark have created visually stunning, atmospheric worlds that contain countless stories to tell. We’re honored they’ve trusted us to unite our film and television teams to tell those stories.”

“ARC Raiders” is set on a lethal future Earth ravaged by a mysterious mechanized threat known as ARC, where players enlist as Raiders to scavenge an atmospheric world while fending off deadly machines and rival Raiders. Since launching in October 2025, the game has sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. It was named best multiplayer game at The Game Awards 2025, won online game of the year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards and took the multiplayer prize at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards. Its largest content update to date, Frozen Trail, arrives this week.

“The Finals” is a free-to-play first-person shooter set inside a virtual combat game show. It has registered more than 30 million players in three years, and its matches unfold in destructible arenas modeled on real-world locations such as Monaco and Las Vegas. The game’s next season is scheduled to launch Oct. 20.

The deal follows a strong run for Chernin, including “Backrooms,” which grossed more than $400 million worldwide on a $10 million budget, and Netflix’s “The Last House” on the film side, along with Apple TV series “Chief of War,” “Truth Be Told” and “See” and Netflix’s “The Madness” and “Man on Fire” in television. GamesBeat added that Chernin recently signed a new multiyear first-look feature deal with Apple TV+, and that European studio Mediawan agreed in January to acquire The North Road Company. Verification: Chernin’s selection as lead producer, the executives’ statements, the game sales and player figures, and Chernin’s recent credits are reported by both Variety (Jennifer Maas, Oct. 5) and GamesBeat (Dean Takahashi, Oct. 5).
