Amitabh Bachchan has told his followers that he has been advised to take a few days off to rest and recuperate and that he will not be able to write in the meantime. The 84-year-old actor shared the message on X on Wednesday, Oct. 21, apologising to fans, according to Hindustan Times, which reported that he did not reveal what prompted the medical advice.

The post did not name a condition, a doctor or a hospital, and the reports did not cite any further statement from the actor or his representatives. The Times of India reported that Bachchan did not disclose the reason behind the advice and that the message prompted concern among fans who follow his regular social media updates.

What Bachchan Wrote

The post on X was written in Hindi. Hindustan Times and The Times of India both carried the same English translation: "Apologies. I seek forgiveness. I have been advised to take a few days off to rest and recover, so I am unable to write anything at the moment." The Indian Express rendered the same post as "I beg your forgiveness. I've been advised to take some time off for a few days to rest and recuperate, so I'm not able to write anything," and noted that the actor did not specify the nature of the medical advice or whether it was connected to a previous injury.

The X message followed a similar note on Bachchan's personal blog a day earlier, Hindustan Times reported. In that entry, which carried Dussehra greetings, he wrote: "First Dussehra greetings to all .. love happiness, fulfilment, prayers. Under very strict rest and recuperation .. so am not allowed to communicate .. do excuse .. my apologies." He added, "But do take this as my respected response .. more hopefully later."

The Earlier Knee Injury

Several outlets connected the announcement to an injury Bachchan disclosed on television several weeks earlier. In an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 reported on Sept. 30, the host told the studio audience that he had slipped and fallen during the previous day's shoot and injured his knee. "Usually, I do my monologue standing at the centre, but today, I have a knee injury. Yesterday, during the shoot, I slipped and fell and injured my knee," he said, as quoted by Hindustan Times at the time.

According to that report, Bachchan pointed to his left knee, told the audience the injury was not severe, and said he would stand to host the contestants but had chosen to sit for the opening monologue because he had a "little bit of difficulty standing up." The Indian Express reported on Wednesday that the new post did not say whether the advice to rest was linked to that injury.

India Today also recalled a blog post from July in which Bachchan reflected on hospitalisation, surgery, intensive care and recovery. The outlet reported that he did not clarify at the time whether he was writing about his own health or about the experience in general. In that post he wrote: "In Hospital in a surgery and in the ICU, under the care of proficient Doctors and medical Staff, a discharge and a homecoming. This homecoming period is the most difficult phase, physically, psychologically and practically."

Security Reports in the Tiger Shroff Case

The health update came as police continue to investigate the Oct. 18 shooting in which two shooters opened fire at actor Tiger Shroff's car in Mumbai's Juhu area, according to The Indian Express, which reported that 10 people had been arrested as of Oct. 22. Hindustan Times and The Times of India, citing reports about the case, said the suspects had allegedly considered the residences of Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan before dropping the idea after assessing the security around those homes. The Indian Express, citing police sources, separately reported that the accused had conducted reconnaissance at the residences of Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. Both outlets also reported allegations that the suspects sent photographs and videos of the locations to gangster Anil Pandit, who is believed to be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Work Commitments

Bachchan, who recently celebrated his 84th birthday, according to The Indian Express, is hosting the 18th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati. Hindustan Times and The Times of India reported that he was last seen in the Tamil film Vettaiyan, directed by T.J. Gnanavel, and that he is working on the sequel to Nag Ashwin's science-fiction film Kalki 2898 AD, which also features Prabhas and Kamal Haasan.

The reports did not give a date for Bachchan's return to social media or to the Kaun Banega Crorepati set.
