Yaga Trailer: Carrie-Anne Moss Leads AMC+ Baba Yaga Mystery for October 23
AMC+ unveils the Yaga trailer for Kat Sandler’s eight-episode mystery with Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid and Hudson Williams, premiering October 23, per Deadline and AMC+.
AMC+ unveiled the official trailer Friday for Yaga, an eight-episode contemporary mystery thriller starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, Clark Backo and Hudson Williams, ahead of a two-episode premiere on October 23, Deadline and AMC+ via The Futon Critic reported.
The half-hour series reimagines the Slavic folk figure Baba Yaga — the witch of the chicken-legged hut — for a coastal Canadian town story. Private investigator Rapp (Reid) arrives in Whittock to look into the disappearance of fishery heir Henry Park (Williams) and quickly collides with wary local detective Carson (Backo) and charismatic university professor Katherine (Moss), whose seminar chatter about bone-eating witches cues the mythology at the story’s center, Deadline said.
The trailer is scored to Alanis Morissette’s cover of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch,” a needle-drop the streamer flagged as a signature moment. Footage mixes missing-person procedural beats with glimpses of Henry and Katherine in a charged embrace and cryptic talk of whether the witch “eats kids” — “Only if they’re very, very naughty,” Moss’s Katherine replies in a clip highlighted by Deadline.
Showrunner Kat Sandler adapted her own hit play and serves as writer and executive producer. Co-directors David Frazee and Rachel Talalay helm the Crave Original, produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Bell Media, with Canada Media Fund, Rogers Series Fund and Bell Fund participation. Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller and Moss are among the executive producers; Charles Cooper produces. Sphere Abacus distributes internationally; AMC Global Media acquired U.S. rights exclusively for AMC+, The Futon Critic release said.
Supporting cast includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris and Sam Krochmal. New episodes are scheduled Fridays after the October 23 two-episode launch, with a two-episode finale on November 27, AMC+ said.
For readers tracking fall TV on Hollywood, Yaga sits in the streamer’s growing slate of original and exclusive dramas — a short-form mystery with prestige-genre casting rather than a sprawling season. Moss’s move from blockbuster and indie film roles into a witch-myth thriller, paired with Reid’s post-Schitt’s Creek dramatic turn and Williams’s rising profile, gives the campaign a clear marketing hook ahead of Halloween-adjacent October dates.
Crave remains the originating Canadian home for the series, while AMC+ is positioning the U.S. launch with a limited-time annual subscription offer running through October 12 — a commercial wrapper around the creative campaign rather than a plot spoiler. That dual-market path (Crave north of the border, AMC+ exclusive in the States) mirrors other Bell Media–originated dramas that travel via Sphere Abacus before landing in AMC Global Media’s premium bundle.
Early marketing leans hard on mood: Morissette’s cover, coastal fog aesthetics implied by the Whittock setting, and Moss as the professor who may be mentor, suspect, or something older than either label. Reid’s investigator is the audience surrogate; Backo’s detective is the institutional friction; Williams’s missing heir is the wound the town will not name. Eight half-hours is a compact canvas for that triangle — a bingeable myth mystery rather than a multi-season commitment.
The Baba Yaga myth has long toggled between murderous seductress and powerful enchantress depending on the teller; Sandler’s series leans into that ambiguity through Katherine’s classroom and the town’s secret lives. Whether the show lands as steamy supernatural noir or tight small-town mystery, the trailer and premiere window are now public: October 23 on AMC+ in the United States, weekly Fridays through a November 27 finale.
