Steps Trailer: Ali Wong Flips Cinderella for Netflix’s Nov. 20 Animated Musical

Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for Steps, an animated musical that retells Cinderella from a stepsister’s point of view, with Ali Wong voicing Lilith opposite Amanda Seyfried’s Cinderella and a November 20, 2026 streaming premiere, ComingSoon.net reported Thursday. The clip frames an “unexpected tale” of sisterhood, magic gone sideways, and a kingdom that needs saving after the ball goes off-script.

In the story, Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s wand after growing tired of living in Cinderella’s shadow, then hijacks the royal ball with sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu). The chaos opens the door for tyrannical Priscilla (Nikki Glaser) to seize the throne, forcing Lilith to team up with Cinderella to fight biker trolls, outrun henchmen, and escape the Screaming Woods—while trying to repair their relationship.

Collider notes that the teaser leans into action as much as fairy-tale glitter: high-speed countryside chases, glass slippers and carriages still appear, and Lilith promises audiences “the real story” of Cinderella. Daniel Radcliffe voices an unconventional prince, with Young Mazino, Peter Dinklage, Bette Midler as the Fairy Godmother, and WWE’s Damian Priest rounding out the ensemble.

Alyce Tzue and Raya and the Last Dragon co-director John Ripa helm the film for Netflix Animation. Amy Poehler produces with Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing; the screenplay is by Ava Tramer, James Madejski, Jen Chuck, Dana Schwartz, and Felicia Ho, from a story that also credits Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci. Composer Kris Bowers scored material recorded at Abbey Road, according to Netflix’s Tudum materials referenced across coverage.

Steps lands on a crowded Netflix animation slate that has lately ridden the global wave of KPop Demon Hunters and other originals. With the teaser now public and a firm November 20 date, the anti-Cinderella adventure becomes one of the streamer’s clearest late-year family bets—star power first, wand second.
