Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Unwell Sign With CAA After UTA Exit
Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, producer Matt Kaplan, and their Unwell media company have signed with CAA for representation after Cooper exited UTA in summer 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline. The deal covers Cooper, Kaplan, and Unwell's podcast, live events, and film/TV arms following an August WTSL investment that valued Unwell at $500 million.
Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, her husband and producer Matt Kaplan, and their media company Unwell have signed with Creative Artists Agency for representation, according to reports published Nov. 6, 2026, by The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline. The deal covers Cooper, Kaplan, and the Unwell banner, which spans Cooper's podcast, live events, and a film and television production arm, the three outlets reported. Cooper left United Talent Agency earlier in the summer of 2026 — The Hollywood Reporter dated the UTA exit to August — after years with that firm, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported, and CAA had been widely discussed as a likely next stop.
Variety's Brian Steinberg reported that the CAA signing followed weeks of talks and that the agency will work with Cooper and Kaplan to expand Unwell and support growth and original intellectual property. The Hollywood Reporter's Caitlin Huston and Deadline's Peter White published matching accounts of the representation move on the same morning.
WTSL investment and Unwell's growth
In August 2026, Unwell announced a strategic investment from WTSL, the Silver Lake-backed firm led by Patrick Whitesell, that valued the company at $500 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline. The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Cooper's move to a new agency was positioned as a way to further grow the business beyond podcasting. Variety reported that Unwell was founded in 2023 as a media and entertainment company focused on Gen Z women, built on the success of Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, which launched in 2018. The show is distributed through a partnership with SiriusXM, which also powers the Unwell audio channel on SiriusXM's satellite radio service, Variety reported.
Kaplan is a film and television producer whose credits include To All the Boys I've Loved Before, The Perfect Date, and Spontaneous, Variety and Deadline reported. Deadline wrote that Cooper and Kaplan run TRNDG, which incorporates Call Her Daddy and Kaplan's film and TV business, and that Unwell shut down a drinks business earlier in 2026. Deadline also reported that Cooper recently had a baby.
Workplace reporting and negative headlines
The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Unwell was hit with negative headlines after Bloomberg and Vanity Fair both reported claims about staff turnover and uneasiness among staff, particularly related to Kaplan's behavior. Deadline separately reported that Kaplan was accused of fostering an overly aggressive and toxic workplace at Unwell. Those claims are attributed to the named outlets' reporting and are not independently verified in this article.
Film, television, and YouTube slate
Across the Nov. 6 coverage, Unwell's film and television slate includes Hulu's Call Her Alex documentary; the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special (The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline; Variety described a Hannah Montana anniversary special for Disney+); and Netflix's Let's Marry Harry, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline reported. Upcoming projects cited by the outlets include Netflix's adaptation of Hannah Grace's novel Icebreaker (The Hollywood Reporter rendered the title as Icebreak / Icebreaker) and an adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's novel Deep End, which The Hollywood Reporter said is being produced alongside Shawn Levy's 21 Laps. Hulu is developing You Deserve To Know, a drama series starring Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley, according to The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. Deadline also listed Hulu's Love Overboard among the pair's reality and series ramp-up.
The Unwell Network has launched original competition series Unwell Winter Games and Unwell Summer Games on YouTube, all three outlets reported. Variety wrote that the Unwell Network launched seven new programs in 2026. The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported that in 2026 the company launched Unwell Agency, an in-house advertising and creative agency developing branded entertainment, original content, and talent-led campaigns; The Hollywood Reporter said the agency has secured partnerships with major brands including Google and Sephora.
Variety also detailed Unwell's podcast slate beyond Call Her Daddy, including Pretty Lonesome with Madeline Argy, a title The Hollywood Reporter likewise listed among the larger podcast slate.
Leadership hires and legal representation
Variety reported that Cooper and Kaplan expanded Unwell's leadership team over the past year, adding executives to work alongside Chief Marketing Officer T.J. Marchetti: Joanne Bradford as president; Samir Sama, a former NFL and Raine Group executive, as head of ventures and corporate development; Mina Lefevre, previously of Meta and Disney, as chief content officer and head of television; Lagen Nash, formerly of Misfits Gaming and Fox Networks Group, as executive vice president of revenue; and Olivia Owen, a former CAA agent, as head of talent.
Cooper, Kaplan, and Unwell continue to be represented by attorneys Matt Thompson and Emily Zipperstein at Sidley Austin LLP; James Feldman at Lichter Grossman Nichols Feldman Rogal Shikora & Clark; and Shaun Gordon at Weintraub Tobin, Variety and Deadline reported.
The Hollywood Reporter's Caitlin Huston, Variety's Brian Steinberg, and Deadline's Peter White all published Nov. 6, 2026, accounts confirming CAA's representation of Cooper, Kaplan, and Unwell following Cooper's summer exit from UTA and the August WTSL investment that valued Unwell at $500 million.
