White House Adviser, Jake Sullivan, discusses U.S. stance on Gaza military assault, emphasizing principles and humanitarian values. Updates on the evolving conflict.
White House National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, affirmed that the U.S. is engaging in open discussions with Israel concerning the military assault on Gaza. While Sullivan did not explicitly acknowledge any major disparities in approach, he underscored the U.S.'s commitment to straightforward communication with its ally.
Sullivan made it unequivocally clear that the U.S. stands against the loss of innocent lives, regardless of nationality - be it Palestinian, Israeli, or any other. This stance comes in light of the mounting international concern over Israel's sustained bombardment of Gaza, following the lethal attacks by Hamas militants on October 7th inside Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has characterized the current military campaign as the second phase of a three-week-long conflict. Israeli forces are intensifying their ground operations in Gaza, complemented by relentless airstrikes on numerous Hamas targets.
When asked about potential differences in strategy between the U.S. and Israel regarding the military operation, Sullivan disclosed that they are actively engaged in addressing critical questions. These discussions encompass topics such as humanitarian aid distribution, the critical distinction between terrorists and innocent civilians, and the meticulous planning behind Israel's military offensive.
Sullivan emphasized that the U.S. is resolute in articulating its core principles, particularly the sanctity of innocent human life. He also affirmed the commitment to provide confidential counsel to Israel throughout this challenging period.
Medical authorities within Gaza, home to a population of 2.3 million, report a staggering toll of casualties. It is estimated that 8,005 Palestinians, including a significant number of minors, have lost their lives as a result of Israel's determined effort to neutralize the Iran-backed militant factions.
As the situation continues to unfold, the international community closely watches the evolving dynamics between the U.S. and Israel, hoping for a resolution that prioritizes the well-being and safety of all affected parties.
