Israeli PM Netanyahu refutes claims of U.S. influence on military decisions, emphasizing sovereignty. Stay informed on the latest geopolitical developments.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed rumors of U.S. interference in Israel's military decisions, asserting the country's sovereignty and independent decision-making.
Reports circulated, suggesting the U.S. influenced Israel's stance on military operations, particularly regarding the Hezbollah group in Lebanon. Netanyahu dismissed these claims, emphasizing Israel's autonomy and decision-making based on operational considerations.
"I've seen false publications claiming the U.S. prevented and is preventing us from operational operations in the region," Netanyahu stated. "This is not true. Israel is a sovereign state. Our decisions in the war are based on our operational considerations, and I will not elaborate on that."
The Wall Street Journal had reported that Biden convinced Netanyahu to avoid attacking Hezbollah, citing concerns about potential retaliation, reminiscent of the October 7th incident when Hamas targeted Israel's southern communities in Gaza.
Netanyahu clarified that Israel's actions are not swayed by external pressures. "The decision on how to use our forces is an independent decision of the IDF and no one else," he emphasized.
