Former football legend David Beckham, 48, reflects on aging gracefully, embracing both its challenges and changes. While aches and pains have become familiar companions, he faces them with a sense of acceptance.
Beckham, now a co-owner of the Inter Miami team, stepped away from his illustrious 20-year playing career in 2013. As he approaches the milestone of 50, he acknowledges the toll it has taken on his body. "A lot of people say (aging is) not great, getting old, and there are certain parts of it that aren't great, but it doesn't bother me," he shared in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.
Since retiring, Beckham has grappled with backaches, hip discomfort, and aching Achilles tendons. However, these physical reminders of time's passage don't deter him. "But going grey, going bald? I don't care," he declares.
When complimented on his enduring good looks, Beckham responds, "I am aging gracefully." He also opens up about the prospect of becoming a grandfather, expressing contentment at this next phase of life after his son Brooklyn, 24, wedded model Nicola Peltz, 28. "I know: grandad. I'm OK with it," he affirms.
Discussing this transition with his wife Victoria, 49, Beckham shared a light-hearted exchange. "I said to Victoria, 'You know, at some point, you're going to be a grandma.' She said, 'Don't talk to me about that!' I was like, 'You know, we are getting older now?'"
The couple's daily routine includes dedicated exercise sessions together. "We mostly do weights now. I don't do a huge amount of running any more, even though I like it... I'm in a better condition doing the weights every day than going for a run every day, funnily enough," Beckham concludes.
