Barry Tubb Takes Legal Action Against Paramount Pictures for Unauthorized Use of His Likeness in Top Gun: Maverick
Legal trouble brews for Paramount Pictures as actor Barry Tubb, known for his role as LTJG Leonard "Wolfman" Wolfe in Top Gun, files a lawsuit against the production company. Tubb alleges unauthorized use of his likeness in the 2022 sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.
In the complaint filed in California, Tubb asserts that Paramount Pictures utilized his image without permission in Top Gun: Maverick. Specifically, he points to a scene featuring his character alongside familiar faces from the original film, including Maverick, Iceman, and Goose. Tubb contends that the studio altered the original photo, originally a behind-the-scenes shot from the first movie, thus nullifying any prior agreements regarding its usage.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Tubb's legal action seeks compensatory and punitive damages, with a request for a jury trial. Paramount Pictures and lead actor Tom Cruise have yet to respond to the allegations.
The lawsuit raises questions about the extent of creative control and consent in Hollywood productions. What are your thoughts on Tubb's decision to sue? Share your opinions in the comments below.
